Working with Us

What does Pentacle Financial Solutions do?

We're an insurance agency in Kandivali East, Mumbai, founded by Manish Busa, and an AMFI-registered mutual fund distributor. We help families and businesses choose life, health, personal accident, travel, motor, fire, marine cargo and specialist business cover, and we stay with you when you need to claim.

How does Pentacle get paid, and is your help free?

Our help costs you nothing extra: quotes, policy reviews and claim follow-up are free, with no obligation. Insurers pay us a commission on the policies we arrange. For mutual funds, we distribute Regular plans and earn a commission from the fund house, which is part of the plan's expense ratio. You can always choose a Direct plan and invest on your own.

Which insurance companies do you work with?

Several leading insurers. Which ones we quote depends on the cover you need, and every quote shows you the options side by side with the fine print explained, so you can see exactly whose policy you're buying and why.

What do I need to get a quote?

Very little. Fill in the short form, call us, or send a photo of your current policy. We ask for anything else on the call: for health, the ages of the people to be covered and any health conditions; for a business, what you want to insure and roughly what it's worth.

Get a Free Quote

Can you check a policy I already have?

Yes. Tell us which policy you have and when it renews. We go through it with you, point out the gaps and better options at renewal, with no pressure to switch.

Can I cancel a policy I've just bought?

Yes. Life and health policies have a 30-day free-look period from the day you receive the policy document (it used to be 15). If you cancel, you get the premium back less the cost of cover for the days used, any medical test costs and stamp duty.

Do you only help people in Mumbai?

No. Our office is in Kandivali East, Mumbai, but we look after families and businesses across India. Most things can be done by phone, email or WhatsApp, and you're welcome to visit.

What do you do with my details?

We use them only to prepare your quote and contact you about it. The privacy notice explains it in full.

Claims

How do you help when I need to claim?

The same person who arranged your policy handles the paperwork and follows up with the insurer until you're paid. We've helped settle more than 6,300 claims this way.

My claim is delayed or rejected. What can I do?

Tell us what happened, even if you didn't buy the policy through us, and we'll tell you honestly whether it's worth pursuing. The formal route: complain to the insurer's grievance officer, who must resolve it within 14 days. If that fails, go to IRDAI's Bima Bharosa portal or the Insurance Ombudsman, which is free, must be approached within a year and handles claims up to ₹50 lakh. The Ombudsman is open to individuals, sole proprietors and micro enterprises, not to partnerships or companies.

Tell Us About Your Claim

How long should a claim take?

Under IRDAI's 2024 rules, a life claim should be settled within 15 days of intimation once the documents are in, or 45 days if it needs investigation. For general insurance (motor, fire, marine), the surveyor should be appointed within 24 hours, report within 15 days, and the insurer should decide within 7 days of the report. A late insurer owes interest.

What should I do first if something happens?

Call us, and tell the insurer as soon as you can: most policies set a time limit. Keep every bill, report and photo. Don't repair damage or throw away damaged goods until the surveyor has seen them, unless you're told you can. For theft, or a road accident with injury, file a police report.

Health

What is the waiting period for pre-existing illnesses?

At most 3 years (36 months) since April 2024, down from 4. Waiting periods for specific illnesses and procedures are also capped at 3 years. Many plans offer shorter ones, or an add-on that reduces them. Declare every condition honestly when you apply.

Can my parents buy health insurance after 60?

Yes. Since April 2024 there's no upper age limit to buy health insurance (it used to be 65), and insurers must offer plans for senior citizens. Expect a medical check, waiting periods and sometimes a co-pay; we compare these across insurers.

How fast must a cashless claim be approved?

Within 1 hour of the hospital's request, and final approval for discharge within 3 hours. If the insurer is late, it bears any extra charges the hospital adds. These IRDAI rules have applied since mid-2024.

Can I get cashless treatment at a hospital outside the network?

Usually, yes, under the "Cashless Everywhere" scheme, if the hospital agrees. Tell the insurer at least 48 hours before a planned admission, and within 48 hours of an emergency one. We'll help you with the request.

What's the difference between cashless and reimbursement?

Cashless: the insurer settles the hospital bill directly, and you pay only for what the policy doesn't cover. Reimbursement: you pay the hospital, then claim the money back with the bills and reports. We help with both, and make sure eligible costs before and after the hospital stay are claimed too.

Can I switch health insurers without losing benefits?

Yes, at renewal. Apply at least 45 days before your renewal date. Waiting periods you've already served carry over, the new insurer must offer at least your current sum insured, and porting is free. We handle the paperwork.

Can a health claim be rejected for something I didn't declare years ago?

Not after 5 years (60 months) of continuous cover, except for proven fraud or a permanent exclusion in the policy. It used to be 8 years. Years with your previous insurer count if you ported.

Will my parents' premium jump every year?

For policyholders aged 60 and over, insurers can't raise the premium by more than 10% a year without consulting IRDAI (from January 2025). Premiums still differ a lot between plans, which is why comparing at renewal pays.

What is a family floater?

One health plan with one sum insured shared by the whole family. It usually costs less than separate plans, but a large claim for one person leaves less for everyone else that year, so the sum insured matters. Older parents are often better off on a plan of their own; we compare both.

What are room-rent limits and co-pay?

If your room costs more than your policy allows, many policies cut the related charges in the same proportion, not just the room. Co-pay is the share of each claim you pay yourself. Both vary by plan; we point them out before you buy.

Life

How much term cover do I need?

A common starting point is 10 to 15 times your yearly income, plus loans and big goals such as your children's education, minus savings you already have. That's a rule of thumb, not a rule; we work out the figure from your actual numbers.

Term insurance or whole life: which do I need?

Term insurance pays your family a set amount if you die during the policy term, and gives the most cover for the money. Whole life lasts your lifetime and costs more. Many families start with enough term cover to replace their income, then add plans for other goals.

What happens if I miss a premium?

You have a grace period: 15 days if you pay monthly, 30 days otherwise, and you stay covered during it. After that the policy lapses, or becomes "paid-up" with reduced cover if it has built up a surrender value. A lapsed policy can usually be revived within a few years by paying the arrears with interest.

How do I add or change a nominee?

At any time during the policy, by giving the insurer a written request; we'll fill in the form with you. Name people individually ("wife and children" as a group isn't accepted), and update the nomination after a marriage, birth or death. Assigning the policy, for example to a lender, cancels the nomination.

Can a life claim be rejected for something I didn't disclose?

Within the first 3 years, yes, so disclose your health, smoking and other policies fully. After 3 years from the policy (or revival) date, Section 45 of the Insurance Act stops the insurer from questioning the policy on any ground.

What do I get if I surrender a savings policy?

For policies sold since late 2024, a surrender value is payable after the first full year's premium, and a guaranteed minimum after two years. Surrendering early usually returns less than you paid, so let's look at the numbers (and at a policy loan) before you decide.

Motor

Is third-party insurance compulsory?

Yes, under the Motor Vehicles Act. IRDAI fixes the third-party premium, so it's the same at every insurer. New cars come with 3 years of third-party cover and new two-wheelers with 5. Cover for damage to your own vehicle is separate and optional, but well worth having.

What is No Claim Bonus, and can I keep it?

A discount on the own-damage premium for every claim-free year: 20%, 25%, 35%, 45%, then 50% after five years. A claim resets it. It belongs to you, not the vehicle, so it moves to your next car or insurer (ask for a retention certificate when you sell). Renew within 90 days of expiry or you lose it.

Is a zero-depreciation add-on worth it?

Usually, for newer vehicles. Without it, the insurer deducts depreciation on replaced parts, so you pay part of every repair. One client added it at renewal for ₹5,000 more; on two later claims of ₹80,000 and ₹35,000 they paid only ₹8,000 and ₹3,000. Consumables and engine-protect add-ons fill other gaps.

What is IDV?

The Insured Declared Value: the most you're paid if the vehicle is stolen or written off. It's the vehicle's listed price less depreciation for its age. A lower IDV lowers the premium but also the payout, so don't cut it just to save money.

What do I do after an accident?

Tell the insurer (and us) straight away, take photos, and don't start repairs before the survey. File a police report if anyone is injured. A network garage can repair cashless. Bigger losses need a licensed surveyor, who should be appointed within 24 hours.

My vehicle was stolen. How do I claim?

File a police FIR immediately and inform the insurer and the RTO. You'll need the claim form, RC, all keys, the purchase invoice and RTO transfer forms. The insurer pays the IDV, less any deductible, once the police issue their "untraced" report, usually about a month later.

I sold my vehicle. What happens to the insurance?

The buyer should have the policy transferred into their name within 14 days of the sale; until then, own-damage claims can be disputed. You keep your No Claim Bonus for your next vehicle.

Travel & Accident

Do I need travel insurance for a Schengen visa?

Yes. It must give at least €30,000 of medical cover, including emergency treatment, hospital stays and repatriation, valid in every Schengen country for your whole stay. Your Indian health policy doesn't count.

Does travel insurance cover a condition I already have?

Often only for a life-threatening emergency, up to a set limit, and some plans exclude it entirely. Always declare it when you buy; we'll find the plan that treats it best.

How do I claim if I fall ill abroad?

Call the insurer's 24-hour assistance number before you're admitted, or as soon as you can in an emergency, so they can arrange cashless treatment. Otherwise pay, keep every report and bill, and claim when you're back; we'll help you file it.

What does personal accident cover pay?

A lump sum if an accident (not an illness) causes death or permanent disability, full or partial. It doesn't replace health insurance, which pays the hospital bills.

Business

What does fire insurance cover for a business?

The building, stock and machinery of factories, shops, offices and warehouses, against fire and other named risks such as lightning, explosion, storm, flood, earthquake, riot and malicious damage. Standard policies (Bharat Sookshma for up to ₹5 crore at a location) make comparing simpler. We helped one client settle ₹67 lakh after their factory burned down.

What happens if I'm underinsured?

The claim is cut in the same proportion. If stock worth ₹1 crore is insured for ₹50 lakh, a ₹10 lakh loss pays about ₹5 lakh. Some standard policies forgive a small shortfall, but the safe answer is to insure at the right value and review it every year.

Open policy or single transit? ICC A, B or C?

A single-transit policy covers one shipment; an open policy covers all your shipments over a year, by declaration. ICC (A) is the widest, covering all risks except those excluded; (B) and (C) cover named risks only, with (C) the narrowest.

My cargo arrived damaged. What now?

Tell the insurer and us at once and ask for a survey. Give the carrier written notice of the damage: at delivery for sea cargo, or within 3 days if it wasn't visible. Keep the invoice, packing list, bill of lading or lorry receipt and every message with the carrier. We once recovered ₹1.5 crore, with interest, after an insurer first rejected a cargo claim.

Do I need workmen's compensation insurance?

As an employer you're liable for compensation if an employee is injured or killed at work, whether or not you're insured. A workmen's compensation policy pays that liability for you. Employees covered by ESI are handled under that scheme instead.

What other business cover do you arrange?

Jewellers' block, liability, corporate travel and motor fleets, among others. Tell us about your business and we'll suggest what fits.

Tax

Is there GST on my insurance premium now?

Not on individual life and health policies, including family floaters and senior citizen plans, for premiums paid from 22 September 2025; it used to be 18%. Group and employer policies still carry 18% GST, and GST paid earlier isn't refunded.

Can I still save tax on premiums under the new regime?

No. The deductions below apply only if you choose the old tax regime; the new regime, now the default, doesn't allow them. The Income-tax Act 2025 renumbered them from April 2026: Section 123 (earlier 80C) and Section 126 (earlier 80D). Check with your tax professional which regime suits you.

How much tax can I save on life insurance?

Under the old regime, premiums count towards the ₹1.5 lakh a year limit of Section 123 (earlier 80C), shared with PPF, ELSS and others. The death benefit is always tax-free. Maturity proceeds can be taxable on newer high-premium policies (above ₹5 lakh a year for traditional plans, ₹2.5 lakh for ULIPs).

How much tax can I save on health insurance?

Under the old regime: up to ₹25,000 a year for yourself and family (₹50,000 if you're 60 or over), plus the same again for your parents, so up to ₹1 lakh in all. That includes up to ₹5,000 for preventive health check-ups. The section is now 126 (earlier 80D).

Mutual Funds

What is a mutual fund? Are returns guaranteed?

A SEBI-regulated fund that pools money from many investors and invests it in shares, bonds or other assets according to its stated objective. Returns are not guaranteed: the value of your units moves with the markets, up and down.

SIP or lump sum? What's the minimum?

A SIP invests a fixed amount every month, so you buy at many different market levels and build the habit. It doesn't guarantee a profit or prevent losses. Minimums depend on the scheme; many fund houses accept SIPs from ₹100 a month.

Direct or Regular plan: what's the difference?

Both hold exactly the same investments. A Regular plan includes the distributor's commission in a slightly higher expense ratio; a Direct plan doesn't. We distribute Regular plans and are paid by the fund house. Moving from Regular to Direct counts as selling, so it can trigger capital gains tax.

How are mutual fund gains taxed?

For units sold since 23 July 2024: equity funds held a year or less are taxed at 20%; held longer, at 12.5% on gains above ₹1.25 lakh a year. Debt funds bought from April 2023 are taxed at your income-tax slab rate. Check with your tax professional for your own case.

Do ELSS funds still save tax?

Only under the old tax regime: they count towards the ₹1.5 lakh limit of Section 123 (earlier 80C), with a 3-year lock-in.

Can I stop a SIP or take my money out?

Yes. You can stop a SIP any time with no penalty; the fund house must process it within 2 working days. When you redeem, the money reaches your bank within 3 working days for most schemes. An exit load (now capped at 3%, often 1% within the first year for equity funds) applies only if you redeem early.

What is the risk-o-meter?

A SEBI-required label on every scheme, from Low to Very High, based on what the fund actually holds and reviewed every month. Match it to how much risk you can take, and read the scheme documents before investing.

How many nominees can I add to my funds?

Currently up to 10, with the share for each, under SEBI's 2025 rules. You must either nominate or formally opt out.

AMFI Registered Mutual Fund Distributor, ARN-47264. Mutual Fund investments are subject to market risks, read all scheme related documents carefully.
